This Puffy Stuffy Chick pattern was originally published in 2017, just in time for Easter. It was my very first Puffy Stuffy design, based on the concept of minimal sewing, and making these animals in just a round, squishy form. This year (2025) I have updated the pattern and pattern pictures to include a no-sew option for the beak, and variations to make different sizes with different yarn and hooks.

I love using Bernat Blanket yarns for these Puffy Stuffies, but have found that they are just as cute (maybe cuter!) made with other yarn and hook variations! See below the materials section for other yarn and hook combinations for creating cute baby chicks. These soft toys provide such a great texture for little ones, and they are a wonderful fun-size toy for play, cuddle, and travel!

Notes: The Puffy Stuffy Chick is an older pattern (©2017)  that has been updated to include additional optional materials, as well as how it can be adjusted to make in different sizes, with different yarns and hooks. It is worked in the round from the top, down, with no joining. The use of a st marker to mark each rnd is helpful when working with thicker yarns. The body and wings are made all in one piece. This yarn can be tricky to work with, so here are some tips: to be sure you’re not missing any sts, always count each rnd, until you’re more comfortable. Because the yarn is so thick, the sts will be very close together, especially during the increasing rnds. Do NOT pull yarn too tightly while sewing or closing, because it can break. Pull gently.
