I took months off from my crochet designing business and the number 1 thing I learned is…
…old patterns keep selling!

How many bigger companies do you know that continually crank out new content? Sure, trends and fashion are constantly changing, and new ideas and tech are always entering the scene, but…
No one tries harder to stay relevant and crank out new ideas than a crochet designer. 😬 I will stand by that. 😂 There’s this unspoken pressure to continually create content, make something new, and abandon the old the second it’s released.
And that’s just not realistic. You CAN grow your business with old patterns! New people are joining social media every day. New crocheters are picking up the craft all the time.
My business did NOT grow in those months off, but the sales remained steady and consistent, and many of the same patterns continued to sell over and over again. You DON’T have to crank out something new every week or every month even. Just continue to share old products, maybe in new creative ways, in between new releases. You never know who might be stumbling upon your work for the first time!

One of my comfort projects this week has been using up some yarn, stocking up on these lion lovey puppets for market season. 🦁
I forgot how much I loved this design. Simple and sweet and easy to carry around with me in the car for pick ups and drop offs and all the sports things. 😁

This yarn is sadly discontinued, but makes these sweet loveys so soft!

I’ve taken several months off from my crochet bu

I’ve taken several months off from my crochet business recently, and I found it really difficult to return to it. Not because I don’t love it, but because it honestly felt a little overwhelming, the idea of coming up with new material, designing and editing patterns, taking the proper pictures, etc. I knew I needed to come back slowly. So these are my four tips on how to get your (crochet) groove back. 😉

1. Make something small! Something that takes less than an hour to complete, maybe even 30 minutes. You can feel accomplished in one sitting! I started making my mermaid tail chapstick holders for markets!
2. Pull out an old WIP that doesn’t have much left to finish, and challenge yourself to complete it!
3. Make something repetitive, big or small. I used to hate the monotony of the same stitches over and over again. That’s part of why I got into designing. I wanted the challenges of something new all the time. BUT designing can be mentally overwhelming and overstimulating at times, and I’ve come to welcome the repetition of a basic granny square.
4. If you’re able, make something completely freehand. Something simple that doesn’t require a pattern, that you can just sit and eyeball. There’s no stress about releasing a pattern, because there isn’t one!

Back to school SALE! If your life is anything like mine, summers are anything BUT a vacation, allowing for free crafting time. With four kids, two teens who are not yet licensed drivers, I found myself running a free Uber service this summer. 😅 Travel sports keep us busy, but there’s only so much time left for such things; only a handful of summers left to cart them around to see their friends, play their sports, and do their things. If you’re a mom or dad of teens, you know how precious that time is.
So, with them returning to school, I celebrate…NOT the end of a summer I’ve loved, but the beginning of a time where I can focus a bit more on growing my business and taking care of my customers. 🥰 And maybe you’ll have a little more time to crochet this fall too! This man has been THROUGH it these last few years of full-time DPT school. He battled cancer, dealt with heartbreaking loss, and somehow not only maintained his focus on his studies, but was still the dad and husband we needed; the loving, supportive, and silly man we know. 🥰 Celebrating Dr. Jelani Greene today, always, and forever. 💗 😘
