This Unicorn Sugar Cookie pattern was in need of an update! I designed this pattern in 2018, shortly after my youngest daughter’s 3rd birthday. We ordered these amazing cookies from Adrienne at Sugar Petals Cookiery. And with her permission, I was able to attempt to recreate her beautifully artistry with a different medium.

These make the perfect little Valentine’s Day gift for any unicorn lover! My daughter was obsessed with unicorns for the better part of 5 years (which is why you see so many unicorn patterns on here), and I’m still a little sad she’s grown out of that phase. I will likely keep making them. 😉

Yarn/Hook –
DK weight/2-2.5mm (pic 11 shows what it looks like with DK cotton and 2mm hook, made into a keychain)

Bernat Blanket/10.5mm
Small amounts of polyester fiberfill for stuffing
Tapestry needle for sewing

Keychain accessories if you make the DK version:
Metal Pull Ring Rivets with Screws
Metal Lobster Claw Clasp and Split Key Rings
Fabri-Tac, Permanent Adhesive, Fabric Glue (when I use these rivets I like to glue the the screw to the rivet to be sure it doesn’t come unscrewed with use)
Notes:
The Unicorn Sugar Cookie pattern is a pattern from 2018 that I have updated. It is made in panels that are crocheted together. It can be made with different size yarns and hooks, for a different size cookie, without changing the pattern at all! I have listed the yarn/hook varieties below. Have fun with it!

Eyes
Continue with sewing on the eyes. Use black embroidery thread for smaller unicorns OR you can split a strand of yarn in half for thinner black yarn. If you’re making the larger stuffy, with Parfait Chunky or Bernat Blanket yarn, no need to split the yarn. Just use worsted weight yarn for the eyes. For the eyes, follow the images below. I placed them around rows 7 and 8, across the span of 3 sts. The eyes will span 3 sts and go up one row. To get the top to stay up, I come through under the black and wrap it around itself before going to the outside for the lashes.

Pinks of ears – use small amount of pink yarn of choice for the inner ears
Sew on the pinks of the ears by creating little triangles and then filling them in with the yarn.

Leaves, make 2
Ch 5
Rnd 1: sl st into the 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch, turn to work on the opposite side of the ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch, sl st to top to join. Fasten off, leaving about a 3-inch tail.
Flowers, make 3 in colors of your choice
Ch 9
Row 1: turn and inc in 2nd ch from hook, inc in each ch across; 16 sts
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly
Pro Tip: I did NOT sew these pieces on fully! I used the beginning and end tails to simply pull them through to the back of the piece. Place the leaves above the eyes, and knot the tails on the back side.

Then use the longer tail of the flowers to sew through the spiral to keep it attached. Then use both tails to pull through the face just above and on the leaves, and below the horn.

Place your face on top of the backside of the cookie. Using your tan (cookie) color, sc around the whole thing, both pieces together, stuffing gently as you go.

I began in the corner to the right of the horn, because this joining area will later be hidden by the flowers once glued down. Using the brown/tan cookie yarn around the edges will give it that flooded cookie look with the cookie edges peaking out from the frosting. Weave in ends.
AFTER completing the whole piece I went back and hot glued them down fully to make them more secure.

If you didn’t sew the flowers down completely (like me), don’t forget to hot glue your flowers into place at the end, and add a little blush with your own makeup kit for the finishing touches!
