Ever since I began making Puffy Stuffies with Blanket Yarn, years ago (before everyone started making amigurumi with blanket yarn 🙂 ), I have found it fun and interesting to challenge myself to create a toy design, with yarn that is not typically used for toys! The No Sew Bloom Bunny is designed with Premier Yarn Bloom, Chunky, self-striping floral prints, and I have been pretty obsessed with them all month!
Did I design them too late for Easter? Maybe. Did I make a ton of them? Maybe. Did I make them as Easter gifts at all? Nope. haha Easter happened, and I had six of these Bloom Bunnies just perched on my couch, watching my kids open their bunny-less baskets. I don’t know guys. Sometimes I just design things I love, but I’m not convinced my kids will like them. As they’ve gotten older, they’ve moved a little away from their love of stuffed animals. It won’t stop me from making them though!
Fun Fact #1! You can make exactly TWO Bloom Bunnies from ONE skein of Premier Bloom Chunky BIG! Or one from one ordinary skein. 😉
Fun Fact #2! Aside from sewing on the facial features, these bunnies are completely connected with crochet! NO-SEW!
In spite of the fact that I have made six of these myself, this pattern has not yet been sufficiently tested by outside sources, so the pattern is currently ONLY available here on the blog. A PDF will be made available at a later date! If you run into any issues or questions within the design, please let me know!
Materials:
Premier Bloom, Chunky BIG, Self-Striping Floral Print, Gerbera – approximately 3.5 ozs

Crochet hook, size H – 5mm
Polyester Fiberfil
Scissors
Terms and abbreviations to know:
magic ring
rnd, rnds – round, rounds
st, sts – stitch, stitches
sl st – slip stitch
sk – skip
sc – single crochet
FLO – front loop only
invsc2tog – invisible single crochet 2 together; this is essentially a decrease, but done in such a way as to make the continuous stitching smoother, and the decrease not as noticeable.
- Insert hook into front loop only of next stitch, DO NOT yarn over.
- Insert hook into front loop of second stitch.
- Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
- Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.
Notes:
The No Sew Bloom Bunny is worked from the top down, beginning at the ears, in the rnd, with no joining. It is made entirely in one piece with no sewing of parts! The arms are crocheted directly to the body. The eyes, nose, and mouth are stitched on with worsted weight yarn and a tapestry needle.
Finished Bunny: Stands about 7 inches tall with the ears folded down.
With Premier Yarn Chunky BIG, the self-striping aspects turn up in different places on each bunny, for a unique look for every one you make!
No Sew Bloom Bunny
Ears – make 2, with A
Only fasten off the FIRST ear. On the second ear, continue to join the ears and begin the body.
Begin with a magic ring.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring; 6 sts
Rnd 2: (inc, sc in next st)3x; 9 sts
Rnd 3: (inc, sc in next 2 sts)3x; 12 sts
Rnd 4: (inc, sc in next 3 sts)3x; 15 sts
Rnds 5-14: sc in each st around; 15 sts
Rnd 15: (invsc2tog, sc in next 3 sts)3x; 12 sts
Rnds 16-20: sc in each st around; 12 sts
Rnd 21: (invsc2tog, sc in next 2 sts)3x; 9 sts
Rnd 22: sc in each st around; 9 sts
Holding the rnd closed, sc through both sts to close off the ear, 4 sc across. Fasten off the first ear, leaving a tail to be used for sewing later.
On the second ear, do NOT fasten off, but continue to join the ears and work up the body as follows:
Body
Rnd 1: ch 1 and turn ear, sc across the FLO of the 4 sts, ch 4, sc across the FLO of the first ear, turn and sc through the unworked loops behind your last 4 sts, ch 4, sc in the unworked loops between the first 4 sts of the ear you began with; 24 sts around, including the chs
*Note (optional): in rnd 2, when crocheting through the chs between the ears, for a neater look, crochet through the TWO loops at the top of the ch, as though it is the top of a st.
Rnd 2: inc, sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 3 chs, (inc, sc in next 3 sts)2x, inc, sc in next 3 chs, inc, sc in next 3 sts; 30 sts
Rnds 3-10: sc in each st around; 30 sts
Rnd 11: sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 14 sts, inc, sc in next 12 sts; 32 sts
Rnds 12-13: sc in each st around; 32 sts
Rnd 14: sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 15 sts, inc, sc in next 13 sts; 34 sts
Rnds 15-16: sc in each st around; 34 sts
Rnd 17: sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 16 sts, inc, sc in next 13 sts; 36 sts
Rnd 18: sc in each st around; 36 sts
Stop here to place the eyes and nose. Sew the eyes in black, covering the span of 4 sts, over rnd 7, with 3 sts between the eyes. You can make them curving upward or downward!
St the nose in pink over rnd 9 in the downward triangle, and the mouth just below the nose.
Turn inside out and knot all ends inside the body. Use the end from the first ear to sew the opening at the top closed, sewing through the bottom loops from the chains of rnd 1, and knot off. Continue on to the legs.
Turn your bunny right side out, and continue on to the legs! Begin Stuffing, and stuff as you go, completing the legs.
Right Leg
Rnd 1: sc in next 13 sts, sk next 18 sts (those will be used for the left leg), sc in next 5 sts; 18 sts
Rnd 2: sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 7 sts, 2 invsc2tog, sc in next 3 sts; 17 sts
Rnd 3: sc in next 4 sts, inc, sc in next 6 sts, 2 invsc2tog, sc in next 2 sts; 16 sts
Rnd 4: sc in each st around; 16 sts
Rnd 5: sc in next 4 sts, invsc2tog, sc in next 6 sts, 2 invsc2tog; 13 sts
Rnd 6: sc in next 5 sts, invsc2tog, sc in next 6 sts; 12 sts
Rnd 7: (invsc2tog, sc in next st)4x; 8 sts
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing closed. Weave the tail in and out of the FLO of the last rnd, and gently pull to close. Knot, and weave in ends.
Left Leg
Begin with a long tail, to be used later to sew the hole between the legs closed.
Rnd 1: attach with sc to the first st to the left of the right leg, with the bunny’s face toward you, sc in next 17 sts; 18 sts
Rnd 2: invsc2tog, sc in next 7 sts, inc, sc in next 6 sts, invsc2tog; 17 sts
Rnd 3: invsc2tog, sc in next 7 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, invsc2tog; 16 sts
Rnd 4: sc in each st around; 16 sts
Rnd 5: invsc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, invsc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, invsc2tog; 13 sts
Rnd 6: sc in next 6 sts, invsc2tog, sc in next 5 sts; 12 sts
Rnd 7: (invsc2tog, sc in next st)4x; 8 sts
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing closed. Weave the tail in and out of the FLO of the last rnd, and gently pull to close. Knot, and weave in ends. Finish stuffing and use the beginning tail from the leg to sew the legs closed. Weave in ends.
Arms, make 2
Attach yarn with sc into the side of the bunny body, just below rnd 9, sc below rnd 10, sc below rnd 11.
Ch 1 and turn. Work in the rnd, using the front and back loops of the sc sts just made.
Rnd 1: inc in the first front loop, invsc2tog, turn using the unworked back loops (but are now front as they are facing you when you turn), invsc2tog, inc in last loop; 6 sts
Rnds 2-4: inc, 2 invsc2tog, inc; 6 sts
Fasten off, leaving a short tail for sewing closed. Weave the tail through all the front loops of the last row and pull gently to close. Knot, and weave in ends.
