Last month we celebrated our oldest’s 10th birthday! He really wanted a Super Mario theme, and I had a blast coming up with Super Mario DIY Party ideas! There are tons of suggestions on Pinterest. Here, I’ve highlighted some of our favorites, as well as some of my own creations and ideas. Any outside source links will be provided in the text around that picture, as well as in a compilation list at the end of the blog!

First, you will need invitations. I found this great site, where you can download a blank invitation! Then, you can just use any photo editing tool to add the text, and print as many as you’d like!

This is the one we used. There’s plenty of space, to the left, where you can write all your party details. Check out the website HERE for more invitation options.

No Super Mario DIY Party is complete without a super fun cake. This is a cake I am pretty proud of! I used a basic vanilla cake recipe. I found some $4 square baking pans at Wal-Mart, and baked SIX squares to layer into a cube, cutting the centers out of 4 of them (those were delicious).

Also, I went with marshmallow fondant, instead of smoothing out a buttercream frosting. Hindsight is 20/20! Afterwards, I realized instead of rolling all the fondant out into a circle…to place over a square (palm to face moment), I should have cut out square panels to fit onto the sides and top. That way it wouldn’t have rounded the top, but the kids loved it anyway!  And I had been in the kitchen all day. Cut me some slack! 🙂

I added some Rice Krispies Treat Stars on skewers, just for fun. They were super easy to make; just cut a few out with a star cookie cutter, and use a black icing for the eyes. I added some yellow food coloring to the marshmallow mixture before making them, so they are a bit yellow too!

Seriously, how fun is that?! The kids got a kick out of it!

I also made some fun mushroom cupcakes! These are pretty self explanatory. They are just cupcakes with red frosting, dotted with some white frosting! In order to get eyes on the cupcake wrapper, I drew them on the wrappers, after baking and cooling, with these edible markers

Then, what better representation of fire power could there be, than vegetables?! Nothing recharges the batteries like some healthy veggies. Give your party goers some crunchy, yummy fire power!

Lastly, we had to have some parting gifts for the kids who came to celebrate with us! I found these printable boxes HERE. I found a few other printable boxes on Pinterest, but these were my favorites. They were a little smaller than others, but they provided the option of a folded lid which could be opened and closed back up. Others needed to be glued or taped shut on all sides to keep their shape. For closing these, I used double sided tape. It was sturdy enough for what I was doing, and I didn’t have to wait for glue to dry.

These were also the perfect size for all those tiny Super Mario Zipper Clips I made for our guests!

Since the “thank you” was on the bottom of the boxes, I added our own little notes just for fun, “Wii would like to thank you.” Cick here to download the Super Thanks PDF printable
If you crochet, you might want to make some of these fun little guys for party favors! They fit nicely in the boxes, with room to spare. You could even add some candy coins in with them if you wanted to!
