The Captain Hook Hand Puppet has been a long time coming! If you have been waiting for him, I am SO sorry! He is finally ready to join your Peter Pan and Wendy collection!
I made him according to the book’s description, as best I could, but quickly had pattern testers point out that his hook is on a different hand in films. I actually do not know why there is this discrepancy, but Hook in Peter Pan and Wendy, has his hook on his right hand. In all the movies, it is on his left. With live action films I simply wonder if this is because the actors playing Captain Hook were right handed, and needed the use of it while filming! I may never know! But you can put his hook on whichever side you prefer!
If you’re interested in a printer-friendly PDF of the Captain Hook Hand Puppet Pattern, you can find the design in my Ravelry or Etsy shops! If you prefer to use the free blog copy below, I still appreciate you being here! And another great way to support my blog is simply by sharing! Thank you for supporting my business!

Notes:
The body of the Captain Hook Hand Puppet is worked from the top down, beginning at the hat, in the rnd, with no joining. The arms, nose, hat brim, shirt ruffle, and hair are made separately and sewn on. The eyes are also sewn on. Pages 2-6 are printer-friendly, with just the written pattern. Pages 7-9 contain process pictures to better help with the steps.
Size: This is one size, fitting child through adult, but if you wish to make it smaller for a smaller child to play with, simply tighten the gauge or go down a hook size.
Gauge: 6 sts across and 7 rnds down = approximately 2 inches

Nose in B (skin color)
Ch 4

Row 3: ch 1 and turn, sc in each st across; 5 sts
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the nose from the top of rnd 27 to rnd 30, with some shaping. Row 3 should be at rnd 15 of the face, pinched a bit. Sew down the first st of the row, and then pinch together the second and fourth sts, skipping the third st so it gives the nose a point, and then sew down the last st of row 3, and around the rest of the nose, pinching the beginning ch together a bit like the top of a triangle. Weave in ends.
Eyes, in black
Use about 8 inches of black yarn for each eye. Sew the eyes over rnd 11, about 1 st to either side of the nose, covering the span of about 4 sts, with about 3 sts between them. Knot and weave in the ends inside the puppet.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the bottom ch of the hat brim down to the last rnd of black on the head, so that the middle is pinched forward. To avoid the whole brim falling forward, sew down a few stitches from each side of the 2nd row, to rnds 6 and 7 of the head.
Shirt Ruffle in Eggshell, White, or any Off White yarn
Make a triangle for the base.
Ch 9
Row 1: turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across; 8 sts

Ruffles
Continue with the unworked back loops of the triangle facing you. You will be using them to attach the ruffles. Attach the same color yarn used above to the first unworked back loop of row 1 with a sl st.
Row 1: ch 2, 3 dc in same st as joining sl st, 3 dc in each of the loops across; 24 sts
Row 2: turn work so that the ruffles are in the back and sl st across row 3 of the triangle; 6 sl sts

Row 4: turn work so that the ruffles are in the back and sl st across row 5 of the triangle; 4 sts
Row 5: turning work so the RS is facing again, sl st into the first unworked back loop of row 5, ch 2, 3 dc in same st as joining sl st, 3 dc in each of the loops across; 12 sts
Fasten off.
Use the long tail from the triangle to sew the base triangle down to the top of the shirt, with the beginning ch up at the top of the shirt. Sew all along the base triangle, knot, and weave in all ends.

Curls 15-17: sl st into the next ch, ch 15, turn and beginning in the 2nd ch from hook, inc in each ch across, sl st into the next ch; 28 sts
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the hair down so that the flat edge is against the black of the hat in the back of the head, the longer curls are on the sides, and the shorter curls in the back. Sew all the way around the head, connecting the side curls a little as you go. Fasten off and weave in ends.
