Last week I shared a Unicorn Scrubby pattern that’s a very fun, quick, and easy gift to make. With my two youngest, a boy and a girl, everything made unicorn must also be made dinosaur or dragon, and vice versa, so today I am excited to share the Dinosaur Scrubby! Just like his unicorn friend, this design works up quickly and easily, and is very versatile! You can make it with the recommended yarn, or change it up. Make it with a jumbo yarn and hook, and you easily have a fun dinosaur basket for your child’s room.

Also, very much like the unicorn, the dinosaur scrubby is made all in one piece! With strategic color changes, this pattern avoid sewing, one of my favorite qualities in a crochet pattern!

Some FAQs about the Scrubbies

Can they be washed and dried?

This depends on the yarn you use. If you use cotton or acrylic, then yes! If you use the recommended yarn in this pattern for the scrubbies, then no. They can be washed, and then hang to dry.

How long do they last when used in baths?

This is yet to be determined! I will update this after my daughter wears her own out. We use it multiple times before washing though, by simpling hanging it up to dry after her bath.

Will the scrubby lather like a loofah, for washing?

The lather is definitely not as good as you would have with a loofah. Admitedly, these are more of just a fun bath toy, than really good for washing or scrubbing, but my daughter has enjoyed hers!

Are they too rough on the skin?

This yarn feels soft in the skein, much like a loofah. Then when it is stitched up, it becomes stiff and somewhat scratchy. No worries! It softens up nicely once wet! It never dries quite as stiff again, after the first bath, but still holds a little of it’s shape.

Do they float in the tub?

Not really. Maybe only for a very short time. The head will tip forward, and once the yarn becomes wet through, it won’t float at all.

Notes: The body of the Dinosaur Scrubby is worked from the bottom up, in the rnd, with no joining. The dinosaur back is left open, with no stuffing, to place the soap in for clean, creative fun! Use it as a bath toy, a soap saver, a dish scrubby, or just a fun soap dish! This pattern is so simple! There are just 3 process photos, so to save space they are on the final page with the final instructions.

Before closing, use black cotton yarn to sew on the eyes, about rnds 14-15. Then knot and tuck all ends inside the head. I weaved in some of them, but even though you aren’t stuffing the head, weaving in ends isn’t necessary, as long as they’re securely knotted. Using your tapestry needle, weave the final tail through the front loop of each st of the last rnd, and pull closed. Knot and weave inside the head. Weave in ends from the beginning and the tail, and any of the visible strands.
