After the Winnie the Pooh Mouse Ears, there was some voting as to which character I should make next. Eeyore won by a landslide. It would seem his is quite the lovable guy! What was up for debate, however, was his coloring. The majority of voters, by a 16% margin believed that he should be blue and purple. However, outside of the general vote, I received a lot of messages stating that Eeyore’s original colors were two shades of gray.

I’m a traditionalist when it comes to Disney, so I made mine in gray, but I included great color options with the same brand yarn, for making him in blue and purple!

Terms and abbreviations to know:
Magic ring
ch, chs – chain, chains
st, sts – stitch, stitches
rnd, rnds – rnd, rounds
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – increase, 2 sc worked into the same st
dec – decrease, work 2 sts together to make 1 sts

Notes: The headband portion of this pattern is worked up into two parts, from the tapered ends to the wider middle, where they will be sewn together in a seamless way.
Also, please note that different yarns might require different amounts of rnds for meeting in the middle. The gray used for this pattern must be slightly thinner, because I needed to add 5 more rnds than the Winnie the Pooh headband, in order to get them to meet. Continue to try it on the headband as you crochet, and add rnds of 9 sts to the end as needed.
Chs throughout the ear patterns never count as sts. Always work the first st of the rnd into the same st as joining.

Headband, in Silver Heather OR Dusty Purple, Make 2
**Special Note: Because keeping track of sts and rnds at the same time can be a struggle, I have included the total number of sts for each section where there are no increases, so all you need to do is count the sts, and not the rnds! Also, before each inc rnd, be sure to test out the fit on the headband. It will be tight, and it should be, but if you don’t stretch it out a bit, as you go, it will be very difficult to fit on when finished.
Begin with magic ring.

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring; 6 sts
Rnds 2-8: sc in each st around; 6 sts  (42 sts)
Rnd 9: inc, sc in next 5 sts; 7 sts
Rnds 10-16: sc in each st around; 7 sts (49 sts)
Rnd 17: inc, sc in next 6 sts; 8 sts
Rnds 18-24: sc in each st around; 8 sts (56 sts)
Rnd 25: inc, sc in next 7 sts; 9 sts
Rnds 26-40: sc in each st around; 9 sts (135 sts)

Put them on the opposite ends of the headband, pulling them to meet in the middle. Seamless sew them together (pictures below). But to seamlessly sew, you will be sewing into each st twice. Line them up so that the final sts of the rnds align with the first sts on the opposite side. Insert your hook into the first open st across from where the tail begins. Insert hook into same st on bottom, new st on top. Then new st on bottom, same st on top; same st on bottom, new st on top. Do this, always going through the same piece first, so that you’re not going back and forth, but always start by going through the piece on the said where your tail began. Knot and weave in ends on the bottom side of the headband.

Match up your headband ends.

Using the the tail from the bottom piece pictured, begin by first putting yarn through the first st on the top piece. Then go through the first st on the bottom and the next st on the top.

Now go through the next st on the bottom, and the SAME st you just went through on the top.

Then go through the same st you just used on the bottom, and the next st on top.

Again, next st on bottom, same st on top.

Seamless!

Assembly
To assemble your headband takes some precision and patience. First attach the bow to the end of the tail, just below the tuft of hair.  Trim the ends of the hair a bit if needed, and spray just a little, with some hair spray. Rub your fingers through it gently and style it to get it to stick up, coming to a slight point. Then attach the button end of the tail to the blank mouse ear. Just above and to the right of the center is good, but you may want to lay them out to test out the spacing, and make sure the tail comes up in the center. Be sure to test the spacing of everything out. My ears were approximately 4.5 inches from the bottom of the headband. I sewed the face ear on first. Then, sewed on the tail ear, with the tail turning toward the center. Then, I attached the bow, sewing it to the sides of each ear.

  1. I would be glad to know if you already made this one as your business. It seems like you’re enjoying the craft of making this stuff and you’re really good at that. The last creation you made left a noise on social media, and I am pretty sure that people would love your Eeyore Mouse Ears. If I have my daughter right now, I’ll have this one as a gift for her because I am pretty sure that she will like it! The colors you’ve chosen were great too!

  2. I love this, thank you! I don’t see where it gives directions on attaching the 2 bow pieces. Can you help me with this?

    • Hi Jenny! Thank you!
I’m sorry! I didn’t really go into much detail with that. I didn’t sew the bow directly to the headband. After sewing the ears in their proper places, I sewed the sides of the bow to the insides of the ear. I did this on the back side, never pulling the yarn through on the front, so that the bow looks like it is standing independently. Hope that helps!

      • Thank you! Your edges of the bow like great. Did you sew the 2 pieces together? What stitch is used to do this?
