Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Dishcloth
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and nothing says love like washing dishes!….errrr?
No, wait, I stand by that. I was second guessing myself for a second because that was really weird to type out, but hear me out. I wash dishes an average of 30 minutes a day (I’m being generous. It’s probably more). So, I once depressed myself by doing all the calculations in my head while doing the dishes. That’s 3.5 hours per week, which turns into 182 hours a year. That is more than 7.5 full DAYS of dish washing, a year.
Well, sure, anything sounds bad when you put it that way.
But this is a great act of service for my family. My family needs clean dishes to eat off of, and a clean kitchen in which to prepare their foods. Such a simple thing that I whine about daily (trust me, I’m not doing dishes, on a daily basis, with this thought always in the forefront of my brain). But it is important!
These sweetheart dishcloths don’t make up for my time at the sink, but they are a super reminder of the love that I have for my family, that I would perform these same tasks, wash these same dishes, over and over again, only to turn around and dirty them again.
And maybe make them for your husband, *wink* and remind him that he is never more attractive than when he does the dishes. #truth
Materials:
Sugar ‘n Cream Cotton Yarns, Rose Pink and Hot Pink
Crochet hook size G – 4.25mm
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Terms and abbreviations to know:
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
Notes:
This pattern is worked up in rows first, and then rounds to do the edging around the heart. It is made in mostly hdc. This pattern is available for free here on my blog, but a printer friendly PDF can be purchased in my Ravelry shop at a low cost.
Gauge: 5 rows and 13 sts = approximately 4 inches

Sweetheart Dishcloth
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from the hook and last ch; 2 sts
Row 2: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in each st; 4 sts
Row 3: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 6 sts
Row 4: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 8 sts
Row 5: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 10 sts
Row 6: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 8 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 12 sts
Row 7: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 10 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 14 sts
Row 8: ch 1 and turn, 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 12 sts, 2 hdc in last st; 16 sts

Cut yarn, and start on next hump. We are repeating rows 15-21 of the first hump, but in a slightly different way, so as to remain consistent and uniform across.
Row 15: to the left of the first hump, sk the first 2 sts and attach yarn into the 3rd st, hdc in that same st, hdc in next 8 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 10 sts
Row 16: ch 1 and turn, hdc in next 8 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 9 sts
Row 17: ch 1 and turn, hdc in next 7 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 8 sts
Row 18: ch 1 and turn, hdc in next 6 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 7 sts
Row 19: ch 1 and turn, hdc in next 5 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 6 sts
Row 20: ch 1 and turn, hdc in next 4 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st; 5 sts
Row 21: ch 1 and turn, sc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sk next st, sc in last st; 4 sts
Do not fasten off.
Edging:
Sc around the outside edge of the heart. 26 sc down the side, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the bottom point, 26 sc evenly back up the other side, sc in the first st at the top of the hump, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st at top of the hump, sc8 down the other side of the hump, dec in the 2 sts between the humps, sc 8 up the side of the next hump, 2 sc in the first st at the top of hump, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last st, sl st in the first st; 81 sts
Shell st pattern: 3 hdc in next st, NOT the same st as the sl st, sk next st, sl st in next st, (3 hdc in next st, sk next st, sl st in next st) repeat around, ending with sl st into first st, fasten off and weave in your ends.Now, go scrub your heart out! 🙂

On the shell stitch pattern, seems like it should end with slip stitching into ….? (First slip stitch?, rather than just ending at the last 3 hdcs?
