The Valentine Puffy Stuffy Snowman is the perfect quick Valentine’s Day gift for your little one or their friends! Aside from just stitching on the eyes and closing it up, it is completely NO-SEW! I am in love with this variation of the bobble stitch, which makes the snowman’s buttons look like hearts. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Did you know that February is the month when we typically get the most snow? People think of snowmen as belonging to the holiday season, and deck them out for Christmas decorations, and for the last two Christmases I was desperate to find the time to release this pattern for Christmas, but here we are in January, again. So this month I decided it wouldn’t be a Christmas snowman afterall, it would be a Valentine snowman, and it is the perfect quick gift for your littles and their friends!

Notes:

The Valentine Puffy Stuffy Snowman is worked in the round from the top, down, with no joining. It begins at the top of the head and the optional hat is attached later. Use a st marker to mark each rnd. The body, arms, nose, and heart buttons are made all in one piece. The scarf ends are crocheted directly onto the piece toward the end, and the hat is made separately but attached with crochet. The blanket yarn can be tricky to work with, so here are some tips: to be sure you’re not missing any sts, always count each rnd, until you’re more comfortable. Because the yarn is so thick, the sts will be very close together, especially during the increasing rnds. Do NOT pull yarn too tightly while sewing or closing, because it can break. Pull gently.

Rnd 2: inc in each st around; 12 sts

Rnd 3: inc in each st around; 24 sts

Pull pink (E) through to complete the last st of rnd 10, but do not fasten off white.

Rnd 14: sc in next 13 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 15 sts; 30 sts

Rnd 15: repeat rnd 13: 29 sts

***Before you continue on to close, you will make the eyes, and complete the scarf.

Eyes in worsted black

Use the tapestry needle to sew your eyes in place between rnds 7 and 8. The sewn eyes span about 4 sts, with 2 sts between them above the nose. It helps to hold the curve of the eye in place by wrapping the yarn around itself before pushing the black yarn through to the inside of the body. Knot and fasten off all pieces inside the body.

Scarf in pink

With pink in a sl knot on your hook, insert hook through the side of one of the sts of rnd 11, just in front of the arm, and sl st to attach there, *ch 5, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 3 chs, pull pink through to complete last st, sl st into the side of the next st of rnd 11,* possibly above the arm (this does not have to be exact), and repeat in pink *to.* Fasten off and send the ends into the inside of the body, and knot them.

Begin stuffing. Body will stretch as you stuff, so stuff a little more after each rnd here before closing.

Continuing in white.

Rnd 16: (invsc2tog, sc in next 3 sts)2x, sc in next 4 sts, (invsc2tog, sc in next 3 sts)3x; 24 sts

Stuff with polyfil and continue stuffing as you finish.

Rnd 17: invsc2tog 6x; 12 sts

Rnd 18: invsc2tog 6x; 6 sts

Complete stuffing, if you can put any more through the middle.

Fasten off and weave the end around the hole to close. Weave in the end.

Hat in pink

Ch 8

Row 1: turn and beginning in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across; 7 sts

Rows 2-20: ch 1 and turn, sc in BLO of each st across; 7 sts

Fold row 20 over to connect to the beginning chain, and sl st 7 across together to close off the circumference of the hat.

Then working in a round, you will sc the bottom rim of the hat, crocheting through the end sts of the 20 rows:

Rnd 1: (inc, sc)10x, sl st into the 1st st to join; 30 sts

Rnd 2: ch 1, insert hook back into the same st as last sl st AND through the first unworked front loop from rnd 6, and sc through both, work around the whole hat and head in this way, single crocheting the sts on the hat to the front loops on the head to join, then join with sl st to the first st; 30 sts

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave the tail up through to the top of the hat, and sew around the ends to close the top of the hat. Weave in ends.
