Last week, I shared the Super Mario Mushroom, and next up for the Super Mario party favors is the Super Mario Star! This pattern is made in two parts and sewn together, without stuffing, and it works up even faster than the mushrooms!
The super star is one of my favorite Super Mario features! I love just busting through all the bad guys! There is empowerment in that sense of invincibility! This would make a great gift for someone a little hesitant to or anxious about going to school for the first time, starting in a new school, or just embarking on a new journey in life! A little deep for Super Mario, but it totally works. 😉
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in yellow, and a very small amount of black.
Crochet hook, E-3.5mm
Yarn needle
*Optional: plastic lobster clasps for making a fun zipper charm!

Notes: The Super Mario Star pattern is worked in two parts, and then sewn together. Each part works in a rnd with no joining AND with some turning in the final rnd. When turning, chs do NOT count as sts. Finished item is approximately 1.25 inches tall. Star can be made bigger simply by going up a hook size. *Also note that the process pictures were taken with a thinner yarn, to better see the stitches. Super Star Zipper Charm
Star – Make 2
Begin with magic ring.
Rnd 1: 5 sc in magic ring; 5 sts
Rnd 2: inc in each st around; 10 sts
Rnd 3 will be the final rnd. This rnd will be worked in turns within the rnd to create the star points.
Rnd 3: (sc in next 2 sts, ch 1 and turn, sc in each of the st just made, ch 1 and turn, sk first st, sc in last st, sl st into side of the star point, sl st into same st worked last from rnd 2)5x; 5 star points (see pictures below for more info)
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

1. After the first 2 sts of rnd 3, turn and ch 1 to begin work on the first star point. Work right into the last 2 sts you just made.
|
2. You will then turn and ch 1 again, but sk the first st and only sc into the second st.
|
3. Then work one sl st into the side of the star point, to get back to the rnd, and another sl st into the same st as the base of your star point. Continue on with pattern, making 4 more star points.
|
Sew eyes into the front of one of the stars. Be careful to keep the lines straight, vertically. This can be tricky in the inner rnds. Then place your two stars, wrong sides facing, and use your yarn end to sew them together, around the edge.
