For my 40th birthday, I wanted to create something special and unique, so I worked up this fun Birthday Cake Stacking Toy pattern that would be perfect for a 1st birthday present or photo shoot, and little ones will LOVE stacking and pretending with them over and over again!
There are a variety of different ways to put this together! You can use white, off white, or cream for the cake, and any color decorative frosting you’d like! I used Red Heart’s Aran and Retro Stripes for a fun look throughout the cake layers. I used cardboard to keep the pieces firm, in my first attempt, but also tried heavy duty plastic template from the quilting section of JoAnn’s for the second attempt. Both turned out perfectly, with just slightly different looks.
Materials:
- Red Heart Super Saver, Aran, A (cake, main color) – approximately 274 yds
- Red Heart Super Saver, Retro Stripes, B (decorative frosting, candle, number 1) approximately 94 yds
- Red Heart Super Saver, Bright Yellow, C (candle flame) approximately 5 yds
- Red Heart Super Saver, Black (candle wick) very small amount
- Crochet Hook Size F-3.75mm
- Polyester Fiberfill for stuffing
- Sheet of cardboard, or box you can cut up and repurpose (for more durability try plastic canvas, cut to the sizes you need. This can also be found at JoAnn’s)
- Stitch marker
